Facade Improvement Assistance

You've heard the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover." What it means is that people shouldn't make decisions about something's worth based solely on how it looks on the outside. However, if you're a greenhouse supplier or a shop owner, the condition of your facade, or shop front, is exactly how your customers will judge you. In most cities, business owners or building owners are responsible for keeping their premises looking inviting. If you live in Henderson, Nevada, though, you can apply to the city for help in beautifying your premises.

The Facade Improvement Assistance initiative was started by the city of Henderson as part of a greater effort to improve the city. Along with programs that help home owners make their properties look more aesthetically pleasing, programs that help small business owners get started, and programs that help businesses advertise their electronic circuit design through signs, the Facade Improvement Assistance program is helping to make Henderson a better place to live.

The Facade Improvement Assistance program provides loans to businesses that are looking to make aesthetic improvements to their premises. Over time, if you properly maintain the improvements the loan allowed you to make, it actually turns into a grant you don't have to pay back. Then you can put that extra money into making more cable sheaves. The period is five years, and you can use the loan/grant to pay for up to 80% of the project to a maximum of $30,000.

So what kinds of things can you use grant money for? Basically anything that improves the look of your building, though the city has to approve of the project before they'll hand over any funds, so don't think you can use it to make a TV mortgages commercial. Some of the projects that have been approved by the city to date include repainting, constructing additions, landscaping, and renovating or installing overhangs, awnings, windows, doors, signs, lighting, or pavement. To be approved for assistance, the building must not be new or in violation of city codes.

What can you do if your business doesn't have any active ETFs from which you can pull your 20%? You can apply for the mini-facade improvement assistance program instead. You can do this even if you don't own the building, but you must have the owner's permission. It's a full grant that will cover the entire cost of the renovations to a maximum of $3,000. What you do with it is up to you, but some of the more common improvements made are fixing awnings or windows, repainting, and adding some greenery.

To apply for either program, visit the redevelopment agency page on the official City of Henderson website and download the appropriate application form.
